Carrefour Market
— Boadilla del Monte, Madrid
The Carrefour Market in Boadilla del Monte is an urban supermarket on Madrid’s western edge, with fresh-food, bakery, sushi, cafeteria and ready-meal sections. It also serves as a local hub for nearby residents and care homes.
The store embeds NaviLens —in collaboration with Ilunion— in the entrance tactile map, fresh-food counters, accessible restrooms and rest seats, while keeping the Carrefour Market look untouched.
Boadilla is part of Carrefour’s “accessible store” programme, first unveiled in May 2024 at its Auderghem hypermarket (Brussels) and later replicated in the Market format in Spain, combining audible tactile maps (Virtuoz), NaviLens codes and other inclusion measures.
§ The challenge
So the neighbourhood supermarket also speaks.
- 01
A neighbourhood Carrefour Market, truly accessible
The Carrefour Market in Boadilla del Monte (Av. del Monte Romanillos) welcomes residents from across western Madrid. For blind and low-vision customers, navigating between fresh food, aisles, cafeteria and restrooms always required human assistance.
- 02
From the tactile map to the aisles
Accessibility could not start and end at the door. A coherent layer was needed to connect the entrance tactile map with every counter, section and service of the supermarket.
- 03
Services that also need to announce themselves
Accessible restrooms, rest seats and the ready-meal area matter as much as commercial sections. The challenge was to make them audible and locatable without overloading the visual signage.

§ The solution
A code next to every purchase decision.
Carrefour Market Boadilla distributes NaviLens codes across columns, counters, services and rest seats. The NaviLens GO app detects them from several metres away and reads the information in the customer’s language.
The accessible layer —built with Ilunion— blends into the entrance tactile map, the bay headers and existing signage, without altering the store’s look.

- Entrance
Tactile map with NaviLens and braille
At the entrance of the Carrefour Market, a tactile store map is installed with braille, colour legend and a NaviLens code next to the title —co-branded by Carrefour and Ilunion— so customers can hear the full store layout in their own language.
- Sections
Codes on columns and fresh-food counters
Fruit and vegetables, butcher and deli counters carry NaviLens codes on columns and headers: customers identify each section from several metres away and hear product information, offers and queue numbers.
- Services
Restrooms, ready meals and rest seats
The accessible layer extends to the adapted restrooms, the ready-meal and cafeteria area and the rest seats spread across the shopfloor, also tagged with NaviLens codes so they can be located from a distance.

Entrance · Map
Tactile map with braille and NaviLens
Next to the door of Carrefour Market Boadilla, the tactile store map combines braille, a colour legend and a NaviLens code —the “NaviLens Accessible Code” co-branded by Carrefour and Ilunion— so customers can hear the full route through the store before they start shopping.
Fruit and veg
Fresh produce column
In the fruit and vegetable section, a white-tiled column carries a NaviLens code several metres high. Customers detect it from afar and hear what is in each crate, the “Super Precio” offers and origin information.
Ready meals
Ready-meals and cafeteria area
The “Preparados” zone —roast chicken, cafeteria and bakery— adds its own NaviLens code next to the ceramic mural and menu screen, announcing the daily menus and the path to the tables and exit.
Services
Accessible restrooms
The door of the accessible restrooms, marked by Carrefour and Ilunion, carries a NaviLens code next to the accessibility pictogram so any customer can identify the service without having to read the sign up close.
Butcher
Butcher counter
At the butcher counter, the NaviLens code sits next to the queue display “Su turno 65”, visible from the line. It allows customers to hear the current queue number and the cuts and prices on display.
Deli
Deli and cured meats overview
The continuous deli line, with hanging hams and cheeses, integrates NaviLens codes on every header, connecting the section to the rest of the supermarket and to the current “Super Precio” promotions.
Sushi
Sushi preparation area
The sushi bar, next to the sink and knives, includes a NaviLens code at staff height to hear protocols, allergens and preparation details for the fresh product.
Rest
Rest seat · butcher
Next to the “Sin gluten” and butcher section, a folding rest seat with its own sign carries a NaviLens code so any customer —especially older or mobility-impaired shoppers— can locate the rest point.
Rest
Rest seat · deli
Another rest seat, between the deli and cured-meat displays, carries a NaviLens code on the side column. The network of seats becomes audible and locatable from several metres, no longer relying on printed signs.
