    Langreo Courthouse.
    Four floors, two languages,
    zero barriers.

The new Langreo Courthouse (La Felguera), inaugurated by Minister Félix Bolaños on 6 February 2025 after a €7.5M investment by the Principality of Asturias, brings under one four-storey roof the Prosecutor’s Office, the Criminal Court, the three Courts of First Instance and Investigation, the Forensic Office, the Legal Guidance Service, the Civil Registry and the Wedding Hall. Each floor has a colour code and each decision point a NaviLens code — read aloud in Spanish, Asturian and 40 more languages.

Principality of Asturias · Ministry of Justice

The Principality of Asturias is the regional government responsible for the material resources of the Administration of Justice. The new La Felguera courthouse is one of the most significant judicial-modernisation projects in Asturias in recent years.

Spain’s Ministry of Justice drives universal accessibility criteria across all courthouses — including dynamic signage for people with low vision through NaviLens, integrated with the bilingual Spanish/Asturian wayfinding.

    § The challenge

A sensitive courthouse that must be readable from the door.

    1. 01

Three scattered seats → one building

Until November 2024 the three Courts of First Instance, the Criminal Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Civil Registry and the Forensic Office were spread across La Felguera. Gathering them into one four-storey building required a clear wayfinding system.

    2. 02

      Spanish · Asturian bilingualism

All signage is bilingual. NaviLens reads aloud both variants and any of the 42 languages the app supports — with no need to reprint anything.

    3. 03

Sensitive setting: victims, minors, criminal hearings

The building has dedicated rooms for victims of gender violence, minors and protected witnesses. Accessible signage must guide users without forcing them to ask at the counter.

    Second floor elevator codes

    § The solution

    One code at every
    decision point.

NaviLens marks the multicoloured main directory, every lift landing, access control and the entrance to the courts. Visitors open the app, point and hear in Spanish or Asturian which body it is, on which floor and where to head.

Codes can be read without focusing the camera, coexist with the tactile flooring of the lobby and with the braille panels by the lift — and do not need reprinting to add a new language.
