The office that recognises disability also welcomes it.

The IMAS —where disability and dependency are assessed in the Region of Murcia— launches in 2019, together with the Treasury Department, a NaviLens signage layer covering the whole site: from the outdoor sign to the small appointment notice.

    Action Institute

The Murcia Social Action Institute (IMAS) is the autonomous body of the Region of Murcia, attached to the Department of Social Policy, Women and Immigration, in charge of disability, elderly, dependency and social exclusion services.

Its headquarters gather Building A under arches, the Registry and Information module and the disability appointment offices (Day Centre — desk 41, Residence — desk 43, SEPAP — desk 44).

In January 2019 IMAS becomes part of the first NaviLens rollout in the regional administration, "the first Spanish public administration" to adopt this digital signage.

    § The challenge

Let any person arrive, enter and find their counter.

    1. 01

The Disability Administration's own HQ had to be exemplary

IMAS handles disability assessment, dependency recognition and places in residences and day centres. It is the first physical touchpoint for hundreds of families; the building's accessibility could not lag behind the benefits granted inside.

    2. 02

A scattered compound of several buildings and a car park

Headquarters span several pavilions (Building A, Registry and Information, admin offices) connected by gardens, ramps and a car park. With no accessible signage, reaching the right counter takes several questions.

    3. 03

Traditional signs that do not work for everyone

Yellow A4 "Disability appointments" signs, site maps, restroom directions: key information that is invisible to those who cannot read it. The Region needed a spoken signage layer that adds without removing the existing.

    § The solution

NaviLens codes from the outdoor sign to the small yellow notice.

The rollout covers every milestone: the outdoor sign on c/ Alonso Espejo, the car-park wall, the façade next to the site map, the entrance of Building A · Headquarters, the Registry and Information module and, inside, the disability appointment labels and restrooms.

Each code sits on a square rigid card signed by Region of Murcia, ddtags and NaviLens, installed with a tape measure to ensure consistent height and orientation across the site.

Pointing the phone from several metres, the app reads out which building it is, what is processed inside and which desk to go to: 41 for Day Centre, 43 for Residence, 44 for SEPAP.

    § The rollout

Compound, façades, registry, counters and restrooms.

    Wall installation in parking lot
Facade with NaviLens code and tactile map
    Information desk at ramp entrance
Information desk with NaviLens code under canopy
    Glass block installation, plank
Appointment for disability services with NaviLens code
    Appointment room installation in hallway
Toilets with pictograms and NaviLens codes

    § Timeline

From the regional pilot to the model of the whole social administration.

    1. Jan 2019

      IMAS joins the regional pilot

Fernando de la Cierva presents NaviLens at the Treasury Department and announces the pilot also rolls out at the IMAS HQ, alongside the Tax Agency, Infante building, Foro de Cartagena and the Lorca office.

    2. 2019 →

      Rollout across the IMAS compound

NaviLens codes on the outdoor sign, the car-park wall, the façade next to the site map, Building A's entrance, the Registry and Information module and, inside, next to disability appointment labels and restrooms.

    3. 2019 →

      Model replicated by the Region

The IMAS install becomes the reference for the Region's Tax Agency "store" offices and, years later, for the SMS health centres, keeping the same square rigid card and institutional signature.

    § Results

    IMAS, now also accessible inside.

    Independent arrival

Blind and partially sighted people cross the car park, find the outdoor sign and locate Building A's entrance with no companion

    Identified procedure

The "Disability appointment" label (desks 41, 43 and 44) is read out on the phone, so nobody ends up at the wrong counter

    Institutional coherence

The HQ that recognises disability offers the same accessible signage already available in Treasury, ATRM and health centres
